Day 2 · Dune 45, first light
Through the Sesriem gate at 06:10 and up the ridge of Dune 45 while the east faces catch. Breakfast from the cooler at the base, then Sesriem Canyon in the last cool hour.
Day 4 · Deadvlei, the clay pan
Over the last dune and onto white clay — camelthorns nine hundred years dead and still standing. Stay for the long shadows; the crowds run the other way by four.
